RIBA Welsh Architecture Award Winner 2012Winner of a RIBA Welsh Architecture Award 2012, Carreg a Gwydr also scooped The Daily Telegraph and Homebuilding & Renovating Award for Best Contemporary Home and Overall Winner 2012. The property nestles on a plot with stunning views overlooking the Severn Estuary. Azimuth Structural Engineering provided a full package of engineering services including; co-ordination of geotechnical investigation activities, design of basement sub-structure, reinforced blockwork and steel superstructure plus floating glass and timber stair.

The design incorporates curved reinforced blockwork walls to the rear elevations which work in combination with a rigid steel sway frame to allow a bracing free arrangement. Columns are expressed in the open plan living space through a fully glazed elevation, punctuated with full width balconies and slender cantilevered roof overhangs.
